American Kitsch: Red, White and Gaudy!
"Paintings, Punchlines, and Portrait Improv" by Push Comedy Theater

What happens when improv comedy meets an art gallery?

Join Push Comedy Theater at Olde Towne Portsmouth’s All Saint’s Memorial Hall Friday, September 18th, at 7PM for an evening of art and knee-slapping comedy improv inspired by Heidi Peelen Brooks’ art exhibit American Kitsch: Red White and Gaudy, featuring delightfully quirky, everyday scenes from American life.

The night begins with a lively, beginner-friendly improv workshop where guests will learn a few comedy basics using Heidi's colorful cast of characters as inspiration. Then, sit back as Push's improvisers become the gallery's most unconventional docents, creating hilarious, completely fictional stories about the people and scenes in Heidi's paintings.

Finally, the audience becomes part of the show!
Donate/Bring along your favorite piece of tacky, kitschy, or wonderfully questionable artwork* for a tongue-in-cheek pawnshop-style "Pawnshop Tales" appraisal. Push performers will invent outrageous histories, dubious provenance, and wildly exaggerated values in a playful send-up of your favorite appraisal shows.

Your $20 ticket includes an evening of laughter, creativity, light refreshments, and access to a cash bar.

Feeling festive?
Come dressed in your tackiest Americana-inspired attire—think overalls, bandanas, vintage tees, stars and stripes, bald eagles, western-rockabilly funkytown–anything wonderfully over-the-top.

Whether you're an art lover, comedy fan, or simply looking for a one-of-a-kind night out, this is an event you won't want to miss.
